Contest Updates:

Congratulations!

Division C contest winners...

Our own Geraldine was a worthy second in the Evaluation Contest last night, March 22nd 2007.  The winner was Peter from Area 29 and in third place Stephanie from Area 52.  Peter will go on to compete at the District 60 conference in April.

Geraldine gave a very effective evaluation using the imagery of a picture to illustrate her points.  For instance she congratulated the speaker on having a "hook" to draw in the audience, as a picture needs a hook to hang on so does a speech need a hook to hang our interest on.  Congratulations Geraldine we are very proud of you.

The International Speech contest winner was Phil from Area 49.  His speech title was "It's all in how you see it".  The speech was inspirational and centered on the value of viewing our everyday life happenings from a positive perspective.

A close second was Terri from Area 21.  We had been privileged to hear her speech "It's a possibility" at our Evaluation contest where Terri was our "target" speaker.   To see and hear how a speech grows from the early stages to the District level as Terri's did was a great learning experience.  It’s encouraging to experience improvement first hand.

In third place was David from Area 29 with his speech "You'll never walk again!" about how he made himself walk again despite being told he would never do so.

If you have never attended a contest at the Division or District level I'd highly recommend it to you.  It’s a great learning experience.  Wonderful entertainment and the company is top notch - well what do you expect from fellow toastmasters!

Our Very Own DTM!

Simcoe Speakers Toastmasters Club is very proud to feature our first Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM).  Janis!

The DTM is the highest award made by Toastmasters International.  It requires dedication, persistence and courage to achieve this award.  There are many requirements that one must progress through in the Toastmasters Educational Program before being eligible for the DTM.  You can review them by selecting the Education tab above.

Janis is a founding member of our club and has been instrumental in our successful development since we started five years ago.  She has led us as President, VP Communications, Membership and mentoring.  She has shown us there is a fascinating Toastmaster world beyond our own club through telling us about clubs she has mentored, and by taking us with her to experience the diversity of other clubs in our area.   She is an experienced and competent contest organizer and participant and has been an area governor with responsibility for eight clubs.

It is an honour to have Janis as one of our club founders and now our first DTM award winner.

Thank you Janis for all you bring to the club.
